The Bishop of Ogoja diocese, Most Rev. Donatus Edet Akpan has revealed that in order to bring the church closer to the people and to enhance evangelization, five new deaneries will be created before the middle of the year.
Bishop Akpan made this known to the priests of the diocese at the 2020 Presbyterium held recently at the Bishop’s court in Ogoja. According to him, “to bring the good news closer to the people, it is pertinent to create new administrative deanery structures”
Bishop Donatus Akpan remarked that having paid pastoral visits to all the parishes in the diocese, it is wise to break the existing deaneries into smaller ones for administrative convenience. The above decision received an over-whelming support from the priests of the diocese.

Presently, Ogoja diocese with 12 local governments areas is divided into five deaneries of Ogoja, Kakwagom, Ikom, Obudu and Ugep. Nevertheless, the proposed deaneries are Yahe, Abuochiche, Wula, Agbokim and Obubra deaneries. It is believed that this stragetic Administrative plan will surely further the evangelization drive to bring more people to Christ.
